Sherman is top Seminole teacher

Adam Sherman, an English teacher at Lake Brantley High School, has been named the Seminole County public school system’s Teacher of the Year.

Superintendent Walt Griffin and School Board members surprised Sherman by showing up at this classroom Tuesday morning to tell him he was the winner selected from among three finalists.

“Coming into the classroom to make the announcement this way allows the students, teachers and school staff to get caught up in the excitement,” Griffin said.

Sherman, who teaches honors English as well as intensive language arts and leadership classes, was chosen from among 64 teachers nominated by the district’s schools.

He receives high praise from Lake Brantley High Principal Mary Williams.

“Adam Sherman represents the best of public education,” Williams said. “His respect for student potential and setting high standards of expectations for them has a climate-changing affect on the classroom.”

Sherman along with runners up Triscia Panarello, a math teacher at Sanford Middle, and Jonathan Sullivan, a kindergarten teacher at Forest City Elementary, will be honored along with the other nominees in an event Thursday evening at the Hilton in Altamonte Springs.
